United States: Federal Reserve policy dot plot
Macrobond now provides time series for creating the widely used Policy Dot Plot from the Federal Reserve. These time series show how many board members voted for what they believe will be the future policy rate, providing forward guidance for the direction of future policy rates.
In the chart below, we have plotted this data in bubbles together with the estimated highest and lowest policy rate in stripes as well as the weighted average as a dotted line.
Australia: Pulse survey of business conditions
We’ve also added the pulse survey from the Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland. This index is created by asking business how they expect the economy to perform the coming twelve months in comparison with the last twelve months. A value above 50 means businesses in general believe the economy will perform better the coming twelve months.
In the chart below, we have plotted this index for all states of Australia, and for the state of Queensland specifically. The chart shows how businesses in Queensland have had a more negative outlook than the rest of the country since 2015.
China: Policy bank bond yields
We have also expanded our coverage of China with, among other financial statistics, the policy bank bond yields. These bonds are issued by the China Development Bank, the Agricultural Development Bank of China, and the Export-Import Bank of China. These are state-owned bonds created notably to provide social benefit, support growing local industries and stimulate the economy.
In the chart below, we have created a yield curve with cubic spline interpolation between monthly intermediate rates using an analytical tool in the Macrobond Application. The blue line is showing the same data but using the values from one year ago.
Thailand: Tourism indicators
We’ve also increased our coverage of tourism statistics for Thailand. We now carry a range of indicators of how many foreign vs national guests stay at hotels, what people in average pay and what type of tourism is the most common.
In the chart below, we show this data as separate time series lines. The data has also been seasonally adjusted in the Macrobond application using the X-11 ARIMA method.
