China We’ve just added the Renminbi Globalisation Index (RGI) from Standard Chartered. This monthly index has been developed to measure the extent of renminbi globalisation and to track the ups and downs of the internationalisation process.
In the chart below, we display the RGI index together with the claims in renminbi as percentage of world FX reserves. As the international use of renminbi grows, so does its usage as a reverse asset from central banks across the world.
Another addition worth highlighting for China is the SME Confidence Index and its sub-components, also calculated by Standard Chartered Bank Research.
The chart below displays the headline index and its sub-components over the past six months as a heatmap representation, together with the monthly and yearly changes as bars. While inventories are progressing, most of the sub-components have been decreasing over the past month and year.
Turkey We’ve increased our surveys coverage for Turkey with the addition of retail trade surveys from TurkStat.
The survey figures are released earlier than the actual retail trade activity, making it a good leading indicator for the Turkish economy. In the chart below, we can see that the survey indicates a potential slowdown of domestic trade activity for January and February.
EU: Eurostat We’ve expanded the Eurostat database with the Oil & Gas Imports and Exports dataset, allowing our users to browse this content per country of origin and destination.
The chart below displays the oil imports from Russia to the EU, split per European country and presented as percentage of total EU imports. 20% of the EU oil imports from Russia in 2021 were going to Germany.
