From today, we will be sharing a Charts of the Week that highlights some of the key macroeconomic trends unfolding globally. This week, we look at the high price China is paying for banning imports of #coal from Australia amid escalating tensions between two of Asia-Pacific’s largest trading partners.

As our chart shows, coal prices in China have soared more than 50% since mid 2020 as imports from Australia dwindled to near zero. Australia, by contrast, appears little affected as other major trading partners such as Japan, Korea and India absorbed excess supply.
